Mangrove ecosystems protect the coasts from tides and erosion, filtrate the water coming from the rivers to the oceans, are home and breeding grounds for many species of fish, crustaceans, and birds, and help buffer climate change by storing carbon.

Chances for Nature participated in proposing a visual assessment scale to help quantify the level of mangrove degradation and start actions for their conservation.
